John Martin III

Music exploring what it feels like now in our difficult and complicated times !

Thankyou for visiting my page here at musicaneo!

I am trained as a secondary literature  instructor but fell  under  the spell  of music as  a small child  when  I  was  about  2 and my mother  played  the piano and sometimes though I remember it less  the clarinet (both  for  which  she  gave  lessons  at  home . In first grade my school offered string instruction and i excitedly began violin training.2 years later my mother got me private instruction. After that I practiced all the time .My confidence grew and ever orchestra I was a member of I was the concert master only once was I in the second chair -during a state competition.Piano lessons started when I moved to Los Angeles and continued on until my 3rd year of college during which I also studied early music and early keyboard lit as well as the harpsichord and various other early keyboard instruments. I started composing in  high school after being excited by Prokofiev and some other  20th century work. This music sounded more like a world I knew was real and current -full of sarcasm and violence and  sounding a plaintive  call  for  urgency  both social and political.  I found my voice only recently after moving to Miami .Now I am looking for ways to enlargen my knowledge of current performance practices  on every  instrument  since I've been studying  orchestration  for 4 years now.
